Thanks to BCG I have a great split time in the marathon that my professional career represents.
Egil
Project Leader, Oslo
A Personal Story
Done with university, 25 years old, and about to start the marathon which my professional career will represent. Stiff competition with many challengers, it truly is an endurance race—probably not done until I am in my sixties. It sounds terrifying. Bang, it all starts. Suddenly I am surrounded by a strong group of athletes, with strong legs, strong will, and loads of experience. I feel at ease because I am not running alone and no sharp elbows are hurting me. It is more like a team race: we are more like a relay team than individuals, one for all and all for one. As I pass the 10km mark I throw a glance, barely a glance, at the race clock just to verify what I already knew—my split time is strong, our split time is strong. I move to the lead to make the pace and the other athletes fall in behind—it feels good to give back once you're good at something. We are all in good shape and maybe, just maybe, this group can take me all the way to the finish line—no matter which challenges we face or how far ahead it lies. At the very least, thanks to BCG I have a great split time in the marathon that a professional career represents.

The female role models at BCG make me aware of what I want and can achieve in my consulting career.

A Personal Story
Being a woman in management consulting is definitely challenging at times since in many industries you still find all male executive management teams. With that said, being a woman also brings you a lot of benefits that you can leverage. Women typically have an advantage when it comes to building strong interpersonal relationships with clients, and clients are increasingly demanding mixed teams. I also believe women bring empathy and diplomacy to the teamwork which is something male colleagues can have a hard time matching. At BCG there is a lot of emphasis on making women succeed by offering flexible work patterns, female mentors, and hosting yearly female conferences where women meet to network and learn from each other. I always get very inspired and energized when I meet senior female role models at these conferences as they make me aware of what I can achieve at BCG.

A Personal Story
One of the most exciting things about BCG is the opportunity to work with incredibly talented and down-to-earth people who share the common goal of improving the performance of large organizations. In a relatively short time, I have worked in several industries and with a large number of topics. This gives you a unique opportunity to learn from the top minds in business. I have worked with international teams to solve complex business challenges and to drive significant impact. I have definitely grown professionally and expect to continue broadening my experiences. Next year, I will spend one year in Washington as part of BCG's exchange program.
